Animal Control Division
The PCSO's Animal Control Division is under the direction of Michael "Cowboy" Herman.
As a one-man division, Cowboy is responsible for responding to all animal complaints within Polk County, including assisting the municipalities of Saluda, Columbus, and Tryon with their animal issues. The PCSO and Polk County also have an animal cruelty investigation team that handles complaints regarding alleged animal abuse.
While Cowboy works Monday through Friday from 8AM until 5PM, PCSO road deputies can also answer animal complaints when the Animal Control Officer is not on duty.
Polk County has a contract for taking animals to the Foothills Humane Society for placement and/or adoption. Injured animals are taken to Cloverfield Veterinarian Hospital in Green Creek for treatment.
Animal complaints, concerns, or questions can be directed to Cowboy at 828-894-3001.
